Is there any such thing as a halfway decent telescopic travel (backpacking) rod?

Not for casting, 6-7 feet long.   Small fish, light-medium duty is fine.

Nothing fancy/expensive.   Not as a main rod of course.

It could at least double as the safety flagpole on the yak.

Any experiences with telespoc rods, good or bad?   Are they all just "toys?"

Thanks, -Matt

Many years back my father ordered from, the TV guide, of all places, 2 telescoping fishing poles. $5.95 /ea.  They collapsed down to maybe 7 or 8 inches.  They were CHEAP!  Of corse to open them, I simply whipped the collapsed rod out and the sections extended.  I think I used that rod for a few seasons, before it finally stopped collapsing, (flung it open too hard and the sections seized) I had this rod long before I really got into fishing. Wouldn't consider using that rod today.
I'm sure there are decent collapsing rod combos available. I know Bass pro shops has one that packs in its own hard case.  It's not to big.  I've also seen 5 section rods that pack down small.

I currently don't have or use a collapsible rod now.

I had one that I would take backpacking back in the day. I had over 1000 fish on it before it finally met it's demise.
I no longer have a telescopic rod, but I do have a 4 pc 4wt fly rod for backpacking. I love it.

Thanks MF,

I set a PM to Mooch about it.  Anyone tried one of these?:

Looks like a toy and I wouldn't expect much at all from it.   Just curious about quality for such a low price, and all set up and ready to go.   Good for the kids?  -Matt
