I got my first striper today.

Thanks to all those who gave me pointers on fishing Lake Mendocino.  I was trolling a minnow in the cove across from the South launch when I saw a couple of ripples about 50 feet away that just didn't look like the rest of the rain drops.  I sent a Rapalla over to check it out.  It got absolutely hammered.  The fish was a great fight.  He headed right towards me and then went down and away.  Then he would slack off for a few seconds before doing the turn and burn.  Lots of fun!!

It ended up being 32" but, kinda skinny.  I kept this fish because I promised my brother that if I caught anything I would give him a fish for letting my son's friend use use his yak.  Even though I just got home, I am planning on going back as soon as possible.

The logon id goes back a long way.  When I was in the military (Retired 5 years ago TODAY) it was my logon id for any computer programs we had.  So, I just kept using it.  And a little secret.....my password is the serial # of my rifle from basic training.  Fort Sill OK, Home of the field artillery,  June 1982.

Yup,
It keeps replaying in my head.  I've caught quite a few LMB.  Never a 32" fish.  I kept thinking the little hooks on the Rapalla weren't gonna hold, and it would come rocketing out of the water at me.  Funny, what goes through your mind.  Anyway, definitely hooked on stripers.  And, yes, it is a T120 in camo.  When the weather gets crummy my son and I go duck hunting from our yaks.  He has an OD green scrambler XT.

Your first Mendo striper and it came on an artificial! Nice!

I wish I had the patience to throw lures at 'em...but I'll take a minnow caught striper any time!

It's good to have that kind of "Boyscout" situational awareness on the water, you will be more ready to duck. :smt003 I think one of the great effects of fishing is your focus isn't on work anymore.
