Fished the north west edge of Decker island in about 15-20ft of water on the first 3hr of incoming tide, one striper about 28" one about 20" then about 6 smaller all released for another day.  Fun on light gear, used fresh shad fished bullhead style, launched right off the hiway and down the sandy levee, bit of a job pulling it back up to the truck though.  Beautiful day.

delladl,

Nice to hear you launched the yak there. I was eyeing that area from a PB a month ago for a possible launch. Short paddle to Decker. Were the any rocks to contend with at the launch spot? Or just weeds and sand? Approx how far from the bridge were you? If I tried to do what you did, I'd probably try to rig up some kind of electric winch to get back up solo.

To get where I launched from- coming from the Antioch direction, (over the bridge, across the island) and then the hiway comes back up onto the levee, then in less than a mile there are 2 large turnouts, I used the second one, the levee there had sand/grass all the way to the water, a few rocks but no mud, dragging the yak back up was some work but not too bad, I'm 55 and by no means am I in good shape, slow and easy gets it done.  I paddled from there out to the main river, then up along the island for about 100 yds, then went out til the FF hit 20 ft.

I've done better by launching at sherman lake, going to the main river, and heading west til just west of the last opening into Sherman Lake there is allot of change in bottom contour there and the stripers seem to like it, also an otter or two hang out there and seem to be munching on bait every time they surface.

good luck,
dale

delladl,

Thank you. I know the area well, should be able to find your launch site. Hope to give it a try soon.
