They first said it was only 250 gallons, now it's up to 5000 gallons. I'm sure "they" will be able to clean it ALL up and it will be back to it's original condition......NOT!

As the 50 remaining salmon begin the migration under the Golden Gate, they are met with a wall of toxic sludge, ending the fall salmon run.

Just got back from a walk with the Dog along Point Isabel/Berkeley Flats area.... :smt009 :smt010..

  Oh My "F"ing God!!!! :smt010

This is Screwed UP!!!! I've never seen anything like this, Oil Caked on the Rocks/gravel beaches

Seaweed clumps of oil, clumps of oil, Totally Oil Soaked Birds, no way to get to them,

Massive response in the area with news crews.

We can only hope this is one of the worse areas, but I think that is wishful thinking..

58,000 gallons of crap of the worst kind,

 Heartbreaking :smt009,

I had just discovered this area and what a good fishery it was,

I have no idea what will happen now, but it looks real bad right now,  So Sad... :smt009...Danglin

A couple years ago we were plugging the beach at gazebo in pacifica for stripers with about 40 other people.  After a while we notice little black slime globs all over our legs and arms...had to scrub it off with wet coarse grit sand.  After we noticed it we split and when we climbed to the top of the stairs we seen that the city had closed the beach due to an oil spill and failed to tell anyone on the beach.  That stuff sucks.

I thought these boats were driven by trained Pilots. How do they hit a Bridge pylon! That sucks for all those fish breeding and laying eggs now. The Salmon are probably saying f*@# this BS.

This particular Captain, Pilots boats all the time, lots of experince, and 2 prior investigations :smt012,

All water near a Bridge now....

Your right about the eggs and such, I kept being thankful that the Bay was so stocked full of small

Halibutt,  Just looked so great for the future.

Hopefully they can overcome this ........ Danglin

Here's a link to a good very complete article about the spill, one week after the accident, from the SF Chronicle.  What struck me most here is that with all the modern electronics on board (but radar possibly on the fritz) the only reason the ship may have not crashed head on to the pylon was because the lookout on the bow saw them heading straight towards the pylon and he yelled and rang an alarm bell.   Hard to even imagine what may have happened if the ship had hit head on!
