I found this rig trolling around the internet  :smt002

Interestingly these 'fish flash' flashers spin instead of wobble, so they have low drag (good for kayakers!).  Has anyone tried these things out?  I think I'll drop by fishermans warehouse this afternoon and see if they have them in stock.

It's called a Spin-N-Glo, and I've used it in BC's Skeena River for big kings.  It works!

I think Mel Cottons has the flasher.

The lure is a spin and glow.  The flash I think is called a fish flash.  Up here in WA a lot of people use them.  Some even just connect them directly to the diver.  In fact, I think there is a diver these days that come with one already connected.

So you get the flash of flasher, but you don't get the action that a normal flasher imparts on a lure.  It probably is fine for lures that have their own action like apex of FBR's.  But it probably is less effective with a hootchie.

I'm learning so many new salmon tricks up here in washington.  Similar to how the spin and glows are used with a hootchie, there is spinner like thingy called a smile blade that is popular here.

I was talking about the spinning flasher, not the spin'n'glow thing (although that might be good for trolling halibut..)  Mainly it'd be nice to have a good fish attractor without hurting running depth or manpower too badly.  I know some guys use trout flashers.

I'd use it with a WM apex, seems you might as well throw out the rest of your tackle for one of those these days.

Speaking of WM apexes.  I was in a fishing store in Seattle earlier today and wanted to pick one up for this weekend.  They didn't carry them in that color.  I guess they're not as popular up here as they are down there.  A lot of people use Coyote spoons on the troll.  And jiggng the iron (pt wilson darts, zzingers, etc) for kings is popular too.  Of course we still mooch up here, but use herring most of the time and rarely chovies.

I'm like a kid in a candy store.  I get to learn all sort of new methods, and buy all sorts of new gear.   :smt003

I actually have a couple of those (really thin spoon) Think I'll try using them at LM tomorrow. The flutter action on those things are awsome!

Coyote spoons have really interesting names for the color patterns too ... "Cop Car" and "Army Truck"  being popular.

I know  :smt003
But w/ barbless hooks that gives the fish alot of leverage to escape.  Maybe they could be rigged with a release.

I read somewhere that salmon will bite almost anything, a guy had caught them on rattle traps, rapalas, swimbaits, hair-raisers, ect.  It's more about putting the bait in front of the fish than using the right bait.  Often one type of bait is popular simply because the manufacturer is local, like the shelton products out here.

I've seen those flashers at Reed's, Fishery Supply and Ly's tackle shops in San Jose.  I almost picked one up but opted for the eTroll flashers, so far the chip has popped from both of them :smt012

Went to fisherman's warehouse in SJ.  I didn't know that the place was cheaper the wal-mart, and they have my picture right under their register too.  But they didn't have those flasher things.  Picked up a diver (my old one is slightly deformed from contact with soft plastics and may not work right) and some open eye siwash hooks.  Straight apex aught to do the trick anyway.

Those fish flash flashers are popular up here- usually used with a cutplug herring or 'chovie. You'll find chovies used around the Columbia mouth, Westport (sometimes), and up on the coast of Vancouver Island. I'm guessing that they just aren't found in the inland waters. Maybe it gets too cold in the winter?

Oh, the green prism flash is the most popular up here; same with the flashers.
