sorry a bit late but maybe useful to anyone going out this upcoming weekend.

arrived at the forebay, way in the back where the canal flows in, at the fine fishing hour of 1:30 PM.  My son is a gymnast and hurt his shoulder so couldnt go to a competition he had really been looking forward to, so we decided to fish from shore.  Wind was forcast at 5 MPH.   :smt005

5 mph white caps.  It did die down later in all fainess to the weather guys.

left just after dark, tally was 3, 15 inch stripers, 4 micro dinks, and one very agressive 2 inch LMB that hit a lure way bigger than he was.  All on cut chovies or mackerel.  So many dinks in the water that when you bring up your chovie, all the meat is stripped clean but the skeleton is there.  A dissappoint fishing day from a fishermans perspective, a great day from a kids point of view in that the rod tip was in constant action mode.

Any catch is a good catch, especially when the kids are having a good time.

the pump is up about 100-200 yards or so.  The fishing at the gate can be better but the crowds get thick and my son doesnt like all the tangling and positioning required.  Im not too partial to it either!

the water still flows where we are so it is still moving.

ya the son is a chip of moms block.  My athletic abilities are mediocre at best.  When the shoulder is healed up, plan on getting him in a yak and seeing how he likes it.

A dink is a fish that is under the minimum length for any given species. Basically it's a little fish.

eugene, I must be a kid too, cause I would rather have 10 small fish than one big one typically.

out of curiosity, how come you go all the way from aptos to the forebay? why not surf fish in the ocean nearby? can't you huck
out grass shrimp on a circle hook and get about the same amount of action?

I love to surf fish, but my son had his heart set on stripers.  I think it may have something to do with his older brother catching a few last year...

oh and I agree, I still like catching bluegills!

or in our case, the 15 inchers are just 3 inches shy of legal.  The micro dinks are about 6 inches long
