All in a day’s work for hat repairman…

My so-called Seattle Sombrero (since renamed to something more politically correct) has long been my lucky fishing hat, but it had huge rips on each side, and I thought it was toast. I figured it could do no harm to try to sew it, so I fired up my 1970s-era industrial sewing machine, and it turned out much better than expected.

It used to be waterproof, but the waterproofness disappeared a long time ago. I did use that silver cloth because it is waterproof, and maybe I’ll see if I can restore it to its original waterproof glory, but I’m not optimistic.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a “before” photo, so you’ll just have to trust me that it was unusable pre-repair…

I had to do really look it over to ID the repair  . Looks like it coulda been a factory design.
