UVR 6/27

Wanted to get out and enjoy the nice break in the weather and hit up UVR this morning. Probably 4 boats already out at the launch when I arrived around 7:30. Fished until 12:30. I trolled for the first half of the day and was unsuccesful. I was marking fish anywhere from 35-60 feet of water and watched a few boats net some fish. I just don't think I had the right combo on.

Switched over to some bass gear and caught a handful of 12" or smaller smallmouth. Wind started getting bad around noon and I headed back to the launch as the white caps were starting.

I fished there June 16th through the 20th and caught lots of fish in front of the Robb's Peak Power House and at Wolf Creek area.  Robb's is easy to find, far end of the lake from the dam and it's a power house.  For finding Wolf Creek, here's an arial view I've marked up:
The circle is the trolling area.  The arrow marks where the water comes in and the wave line is the creek bottom.  I hit on rainbows to the left side, where there's a shallow sandy area, hanging just off that drop.  I hit on mack's on the right side in 40 to 50' of water and I hit kokes where ever my fish finder showed them to be.  They were grouped up and in 30' to 50' of water usually but the groups were everywhere. 
I used a downrigger 30' down and trolling 1.5mph and 50' behind the boat.  The circle route I went counter clockwise.  I hugged the 30' mark along the shore, no deeper than 40' and when I crossed the creek channel at both ends of the loop, in deeper water, that's where the fish usually would hit.  Fish were biting from sunrise to when the wind picked up, around 11am or so.  Maybe they bit after the wind, but I can't control the boat well enough trolling with wind, so I come in then.  I used a needlefish lure in Wonder Bread pattern.  I changed out the hook to a treble after failing at least 50% of the time to set the single hook.
Evenings in front of the power house worked great since I launched from there, camping at the SMUD private campground.  Trolling worked, but soaking bait was better while tied off right at the plastic log boom.

Wow! Super informative, thank you! I'll have to head back there soon and give it a try again. It's a beautiful lake and probably the closest to me that has Kokes. Thanks again!
