I flipped last week and just wanted to thank everyone on this forum that shared safety tips. I was able to self rescue properly.

Got some video also. Please note I have since adjusted a bunch of things since filming this and also picked up everything i could find that was floating :P

Did a whitecap get you?

Bummer. Admirable save though - especially for your first involuntary kayak baptism.

I hope a wetsuit was one of the adjustments. Unless it's on, and I can't see it.

@ekayaker, I'm not sure if it was the whitecap or just the wave curling

That was an impressively quick self-rescue.

The center of gravity seems a bit high on that kayak, so that might have been a factor...

Nice recovery, and glad you were OK. Any lost gear?

One note about the Garmin - there are little nut inserts on the back, I wanna say size M3 or M4, that you can attach a lanyard to.

Super fast recovery, well done!  How often had you practiced that?  Looked like muscle memory kicked in, and that doesn't happen by accident.

@NWM ya its a bit wider so definitely helps

@SpeedyStein Thanks. I'll check that lanyard tip for the garmin. I lost my knife, yakattack rodholder and the tacklebox. Other than that everything else was good. I'm suprised theyakattack rodholder got off, I didnt recheck how securely fastened it was before going out. Definitely will be doing that for all my track mounted gear from now on.

@johnz i actually practiced once but i think since it was pretty recently it really helped. Definitely glad I did! definitely will try to practice every once in a while to make sure its hammered in there. I saw your post about practicing, appreciated you offering it, would have taken you up if i didn't already do it so recently.

Thanks for posting. I need to practice a self rescue. You made it look pretty easy - impressive. And a good tip about using the pedal drive to right the boat
