Got out on Monterey Bay today in the new Stealth Fisha 500. The original plan was to meet up with a buddy, but he ended up flipping his kayak on the way out and had to radio for assistance and a rescue. Thankfully he was okay, but it was a good reminder to always carry a VHF radio and practice self-rescues before heading offshore.

Fishing was decent but not wide open. Only managed about 6 squid, but also picked up 6 huge mackerel. The squid made great bait and produced a small lingcod, 4 vermilion rockfish (released 2 due to the sub-limit), and 1 copper rockfish.

No halibut this trip, but enough fish for the table. The mackerel are headed for a garum ferment, and the rockfish carcasses will be turned into garden fertilizer. Overall, a fun day on the water and another successful shake-down trip for the Fisha 500.
