Well, whoever said that nothing ever happens in Fremont probably doesn't live here. A daytime murder on Tuesday and nighttime tear gas assault on the suspect's home on Wednesday. And...now...today, an evacuation of my neighborhood because a renter around the corner was caught in San Jose with bomb-making material in his car. Took 4 hours to slip back into my house, but only because the cordoned area was moved up just past my house. They're still outside with the bomb squad and at least a dozen police cars. I didn't Fremont had that many police cars.  :smt005

 Let us know how it turns out.   I wonder what the definition of "bomb making supplies" is.  I have plumbing tools and garden fertilizer and kerosene in our garage right now.   I also often take a small boat quietly into obscure places with sophisticated electronics, a camera, and binoculars and can be seen taking notes.   I've been thinking of turning myself in for awhile.  :smt002   I know, I shouldn't joke.   Seriously, let us know how it turns out.

The police finally made their move (into the house) sometime around midnight. On my way to work this morning at 4 am, my street is no longer bumper to bumper with squad cars, although the bomb squad van was still still at the curb a couple of houses down. The police are still at the suspect house around the corner. A KCBS radio/KPIX TV reporter was interviewing a couple as I passed by. I was interviewed yesterday, but that very short clip was only played on the internet.

Last time the police cavalry came charging into my neighborhood was about 10 years ago, when they chased somebody fence-hopping to get away from somebody in that same house in the news today and who ended up in my tool shed. Or the neighbor across the street whose dope-addled son almost burned down the house.

Which neighborhood?

I've lived around Niles off and on for 15 years and the worst I've experienced is the occasional tweaker ransacking cars that were not locked.

Sundale area, near Kennedy High School (Blacow and Stevenson). It used to be a quiet place until about 10 years ago.

The police did find a second bomb in the house after all. That would explain the loud bangs that I heard shortly after midnight. The landlord will be surprised, when she arrives in Fremont, that she will need new windows.
