SC harbor 6/17/26

I went to the SC harbor this afternoon and launched (in kayak mode) from the A dock. I had no plans to even leave the harbor, as I just wanted to test a couple of things. I was surprised to see this sign at the dock.

Although the swell was large when I was there, the surf was not breaking all the way across, and I don't think it would have been too risky to pedal/paddle out. I am planning to go fishing in AI mode tomorrow, and from what I see on Windy.com, the swell should be less intense than today. Anyways, I'll be sure to watch the sets carefully before (hopefully) making my way out of the harbor bright and early tomorrow...

Interesting, and seemingly rudimentary - like they've not dealt with this much over the years...

This could be the new normal, with climate change, the massive warm water blob offshore, and Super El Nino about to womp on us.

Planning to try on Saturday. The swell forecast looks doable but still southy. Perhaps a pesky breeze continuously blowing one back in from the close reefs. It only takes one halibut to make it a good day.

Also, some friends are coming on Sunday to join me/wifelady/kiddo on the Father’s Day evening wine cruise aboard the Chardonnay II sailboat. After seeing it sail around so many times, we’re finally checking it out.

I see that out on the water all the time too, and I bet it's a lot of fun.
