I’m thinking hitting Monterey again on Sunday. Forecasts seem better than Saturday.

Good luck Joe!  I'm sure there will be others out there.
We're gonna need a bigger boat!

If I done with my "honey do" list tomorrow,  I might be kayak fishing on Sunday.

I caught 8 lings today. One was almost 36in. No halibut though. Left my fishfinder at home and had a hard time making bait. The wind really came in strong around 1pm. Weather was great otherwise.

Always on the prowl in my PA14, except for most days. Then I have to settle for dreaming.

I met Sonny in the lot, Allen was a bit late due to time change. I headed out, bait was not as super easy to get, but still caught a good batch of mackerel with a couple large sardines. Bounced 2 rigs from 80' to 115' for one scratch. Sonny had one let go. Then I got a soft bite that turned into huge weight and a short hard run. No shark bouncy motions, but no head-shakes, which tempered my hopes for a 50" halibut. After much effort I was able to haul the beast up form 100' and it was flat and brown but the wrong shape. It was a huge bat ray with about a 44" to 48" wingspan. I set the gaff down along with my expectations. Mabel was excitedly dog-screaming and it made another flapping run down to 60'. This happened a couple more times and it was wearing me out. I was finally able to get its head up boat-side and Mabel was giving it some licks/bites as I unhooked both hooks with my rusty needlenose. It gracefully flapped back to the depths. It was so much work and pandemonium with the dog that I did not get any photos.
After that I targeted shallower waters from 90' to 55' as the wind came up. Wind calmed back down after 1:30 or so and I had one good scratched bait after that and landed around 3.  Halibut are amazing at biting between the nose and stinger hook. But I'm sure if I place the stinger forward that then they will just bite closer to the tail.

I heard you on the radio with the 36" ling. I try to avoid the reef areas, although the halibut can be in the pockets there as well.

What a beautiful day until the fan turned on around 1pm.  Did not catch any live baits but Alan gave me a few Macs.  Started scouting for big Mama with the biggest Mac I got about 10".  Got a good hit  by the red buoy in 114 fow and fought it for about 10 seconds before it let go.  Felt a few head shakes so I am pretty sure it was a Halibut.  The bite marks were in-between the 2 hooks (guess they're getting smarter)  :smt003.  Rebaited and circled the area for an hour but no other bite.  Went to the hotel area and tried several hours there in 90 - 120 fow with no luck.  Headed to shallower water hopefully to catch some live baits but ended up catching 1 Lingcod,  1 huge Copper, and 1 Blue.  No halibut today but really happy with another water therapy session.

FYI I noticed that while I was reading around 58 degrees on my FF, the Monterey Dive Reports were saying it's only 50 degrees once you get down. So that might be slowing the bite.
