Edge Rods, the company that Gary Loomis started after he sold Loomis Rods, is having a 55% off sale.

This seems like a great deal on American-made rods. Anyone have first-hand opinions or recommendations? North Fork Composites is the part of the company that sells blanks, while Edge sells finished rods.

I’ve been building on NFC blanks for a couple years now; mostly swimbait rods but a handful of surf, crankbait, senko rods and some moochers we sent up to Alaska.

There’s been a few minor issues but no major red flags, and nothing that’s turned me away from using them lol. The blanks themselves are everything you’d expect from a loomis rolled blank, sensitive and light.

I think my favorite are the BB-809 (great bay/light inshore stock 1-6oz’s) and the SWB 808 (a step up in power, mod-fast but can fish up to 10oz’s).

Didn't realize you built rods. Those look fancy.

When it’s winter time and I’m stuck indoors I get plenty of time to twist em up all perdy like.   :smt001

I’m not sure if their rods are the same way but when I order blanks……they’re on sale pretty frequently so I always wait to order a bulk size batch of them.   Theres usually an excise tax that’s generally higher than a regular sales tax…..you don’t see how much it is till checkout.  If you’re ordering an obscure blank or something they don’t produce in volume……you may have to wait until they build it before you get it.  I bought a travel blank during the Black Friday sale in November once…..got the blank in July the next year.  If you need something in a hurry, email the first to see what the wait time would be, they’re pretty responsive.  Otherwise it’s order and hope they got it in stock, if not, it’s the waiting game but worth it cause of pricing discount.

EDGE Rods is not a well-organized and run assembly/production company.
Gary-North Fork Composites is more of a figurehead, mostly consulting on designs these days. But NFC blanks are solid quality.
Few years ago, I would recommend Edge Rods....as of past 2 years, not recommend any longer.

In past 2 years, rods purchased had many quality control/production flaws, 3 rods broke on 1st use. My 4th rod was a switch fly rod and that never saw water. It had a clean, partial saw cut on the blank that shouldn't have been there and split upon opening the package. Took 8 weeks to resolve the return to Edge Rods. Had to provide proof of return to Edge, round & round their circus of customer service, finally to involve bank to gain credit.

Getting responses from Edge customer service is SLOW.
3x had to use my bank to reverse charges on my credit card on returned rods, one of those being the switch fly rod.

Shame too, I had been a customer of Gary's since early 1980's: Lamiglas, G.Loomis then his development of Edge Rods. Back in the day, several times fished, talked with Gary on the North Fork Lewis river in SW WA State.
Still have my fave PNW fishing rods, Lamiglas, G.Loomis.
However, since retiring/moving to Cali, upgraded/purchased 9 rods for fishing here. Surfcasting, fly and ocean rods (La Jolla yak for yellowtail).

I am aware this is an older post, however I want to revive it based on my first hand experience with Edge Rods.
I ordered a tuna rod on May 4th 2025 and received it in late January 2026. It took over eight and half months to get it.
Late and unanswered voicemails and emails, deceiving replies and plain lies were the norm throughout my interaction
In short, unless you have immense patience, tolerance to ignorance, arrogance and lies, do NOT engage with Edge rods.
I sure hope they will revise their business practices; one thing for sure, I will never buy an Edge Rods product again.
