Pyramid Lake Report 1/31/26

I made the pilgrimage to the big salt pond. Fishing was slow but I managed a few hookups, netted 2. Not the huge 10-20 pounders I'm still searching for, but nice 22"-23" fish. The first was around 9:30 AM and on the fly rod trolling a chub pattern. I think it was the regular Lahontan strain. Then I only had a couple of bites all day until around 3:30 when a guy in a powerboat told me they were getting a few on spoons. I switched to a spoon and had a hookup 10 minutes later. That one wrapped my downrigger line but I still landed it. It had more the pale silver colors of the Pilot Peak strain, which is supposedly closer to the original trout found in the lake. I hooked another one 15 minutes later but it threw the hook near the boat. Two nice fish so a pretty nice day.

That's awesome, never fished there but  been to that lake and the nearby  deserts. It brings up great memories.
