Haven't seen a thread on the Fluxjet Kayaks yet unless I missed it.

This new (and surprisingly cheap) kayak won icast 2025 Best-In-Show. It seems interesting, I mainly like how light it is compared to similar motor-first kayaks. They advertise it is easy to car top and beach launch.

But it's not all daisies. Many have concerns about total weight capacity (400 lbs including you, battery, and gear) and noise levels of the jet. Quite a few are eager to have the flagship, but I'll be waiting at least a year for them to work out the feedback.

Thoughts?

Interesting kayak. I watched some of the videos and noticed it was on Lake Natoma in Sacramento. Headquarters also located in Sac. I look forward to seeing one of these.

Thanks for sharing.

These look cool, looks like you can make an appointment to see them in person in Sacramento at their corporate location. I am not in the market to buy one but like the innovation. Wonder how they handle in bad salt water conditions.

Looks interesting but with the short length and high seat I don't think it is well suited to ocean fishing.

Watched the walk around of the jet drive system. Pretty cool. A neat step in a fairly different direction with regard to Kayak/small boat propulsion. I do agree, however, with JP52 that this thang seems tiny with a high COG and wouldn’t be well suited for near shore or open ocean. Will be interested to see if they gain traction and put out more (larger) hull designs around their system.

Very cool, but the claimed 720 minute runtime seems far-fetched, which makes me a bit skeptical about some of the other claims (weight, for example)...

At what speed do you get 720 minutes? I’ve gotten that much with a small trolling motor and 2 20ah batteries. A 100ah lithium battery at 2-3 mph could easily last 12 hours.

I’m curious about the flat bottom though. I wonder how the stability compares to my Wilderness Radar 135 and 115.

With the tunnel style hull, I bet this is more stable than it looks, even at only 11' long.  Well, I think it would be pretty stable, until it isn't, if that makes sense.  Primary stability would probably be pretty great, but I bet secondary stability would be lacking.  My old Pelican 10.5' kayak was like that - really stable until it wasn't.  I never tipped it over or fell out of it though, so there is that.

I agree that the high seat is probably not the best for our coast.

Unique idea though, and the price isn't bad.  I bet this thing would be stellar for bass fishing and flat water trolling.  If I was 30 years older, or if I couldn't pedal a kayak for whatever reason, I'd be a buyer for sure, especially when price shopping vs the other options in this category.

EDIT:  apparently it weighs 88 lbs.  But I'm guessing that's wo battery.

They omit several pre-production boat specs from FAQ.  An 11 footer that needs a buddy to carry doesn't exactly speak to the geriatric bass fishing car topping niche market.

Still, I applaud the attempt.  There is a long felt need for purpose built edrive kayak, instead of retro-fitted drop in/bolt on motors.  I won't be the first in line to buy a flux, but maybe third or fourth...
