We should go get some big soles next summer 5 mile offshore on our AI. Summer seem to be better for sole.

Sign me up for an offshore AI sole hunt!

Heck yes!

Favorite that I’ve caught off my kayak in CA?

In the saltwater court I’d say:
- Lingcod
- Striped Bass

In freshwater:
- Kokanee
- Sacramento Perch [Crappie is about the same]

If speaking on *any fish* I’ve caught and ate [from anywhere]:

- CA ocean-caught king salmon
- yellowtail
- Pargo (huachinango snapper)

My kiddo swears brown rockfish are the best, probably because they are numerous near shore in Santa Cruz and Capitola and what she’s most accustomed to since birth.

I love a vermillion or olive most, followed by halibut, then any rockfish, then lingcod. Never got a salmon. Sole and flounder are too soft. Anchovies are an occasional treat!

When I’ve cooked cabezons, I really didn’t enjoy them. Lings are the fish we doctor up the most, like breaded or buffalo hot sauce.

I've caught Pacific Mackerel in Pacifica and Santa Cruz, but not often.  Usually pick them up on the sabiki when trying to get other bait, and they work pretty well for that.  I haven't taken any home, but also haven't caught more than a couple/day when I do find them.

Others here have caught other varieties.
