Rockfish Medley (Copper, Vermilion, China, Blue, Quillback-released) & CDFW Inspection @ Mendocino Coast 2025-09-28

The ocean was slightly bumpy, and the current was around 0.6 MPH.  The wind started blowing around 11 AM.

Wish I will retire to somewhere 10 miles from any launch spot, good life! Looks like a lot a fish around your area, I need to come up and get some pointers from you. Very enjoy your video.

I am still learning, but you are welcome to join me.

I used to see the more often until this year.  It was the first time this year.

And that they didn’t want to see your license. . .
They remembered me from a couple of weeks ago.  When they did a shore inspection.  I had lengthy discussions with Officer Powell about kayak fishing when we met the last couple of times.

Paul will likely second this experience, but I have been checked by CDFW at Van Damme and Russian Gulch so many times that I can't tell you how many, both in the water and on shore, and that's in addition to the non-regulatory creel counters that I have run into on the beach at both places as well.  They have generally always been pleasant encounters, probably because I'm always compliant!  Proximity to their base of operations in Noyo Harbor causes them to patrol those areas significantly more often than other locations further away.  I even hit an abalone checkpoint on hwy 128 between hwy 1 and the town of Navarro back before the closure.  They went through all my gear, measured my abs, verified I had filled out my check card and tagged the abs, etc.  It never bothers me that they are out there checking, I like that they are actively protecting the resources I cherish so much on the Mendo Coast....too many pirates and poachers out there taking more than their share...
