I’m looking into getting a kayak trolling motor. I have a hobby compass and was looking at Newport vessel. Has anyone installed the transom mount on their kayak? Any help greatly appreciated thank you.

Check out Motorized Kayak Fishing on Facebook. You'll get all the answers you're looking for. What NV motor are you looking at? I bought the NV 36 kayak series. Great motor but a bit heavy compared to others. I've ran it for 4+ years now and had no issues at all. The NV motors have a standard 5/3 speed controller. You may want to consider adding a PWM or ESC power system to it. This will eliminate the 5/3 and provide unlimited speed control. Feel free to ask me about setting this up.

I use the bixpy jet attached on the rudder so I can still use the mirage drive.

I do the same too but instead of the rudder I use the rear rod holder to hold the bixpy using pvc. This way I can reach back and untangle any kelp or grass that might get stuck in the propeller which would be hard to do on the rudder mount.

I sold my Compass because of the difficulties of mounting the motor.

the guy that bought it, put a motor on the Compass!!  so I know it can be done.
