Just saw squid for $3.99/lb at Ranch 99 in Fremont, that's significantly cheaper than what I've seen at bait shops. I picked up a pack to freeze.

It also got me curious if anything would go for the large squids they had on sale there. Maybe giant lings...

$3.99 is a great price.  I typically pay $5.99 per pound at local grocery stores and tackle shops.

I look at Asian markets if I want squid.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I have also wondered about using those huge squid as bait--never did, though. If you do try it, post a report...

Seafood city on Concord always has fresh squid usually about $5/lb.

Same! Maybe if not whole, cut into strips?

my friend uses a big squid, cut into strips.  he does okay.

I gave him a whole squid from my rapidly thawing pile, and on the drop he caught his PB Ling.

I shop at R-99.  Never thought to buy my squid there.  I could just bag up a few 1-lb bags and freeze them.   they look better than the boxed bait version for sure.
