In preparation for salmon this week I am going over all the “what could go wrong” items in my head. One of them is the Hobie cotter pins that hold the wheels to the cart. They fall all the time, and I replaced them with a linch pin ring, but that ring doesn’t lock so well and I’ve had it falling a couple of times.
I recently got a coupler pin that i think won’t come off. I like it very much. It’s marine grade. About $10 for a pair on Amazon. Worth the headache of walking down the beach looking for a tiny piece of metal. I think the pin has to be less than 4.5mm in diameter, or even less. In my cart I drilled the holes a little bigger so that the pin fits.

Thanks for sharing Li.

My local Home Depot has a drawered section of specialty clasps as such in your picture. Great for last minute if needed.

My Hobie cart came with R-pins, not cotter pins.  I've never had one fall out.  R-pins are a little more inexpensive than the PTO pin you used, so if someone is extra cost conscious, r-pins might be a good consideration.

Oops, I meant R pins, not cotter pins. My R pin would come off. Not sure why there wasn’t enough tension in the pin to stay put.
