I am not much for surf launching myself, but these guys taking off a South African Beach are catching air with a Pro Fisha 575, and getting launched off of their yaks.  Some good fishing in there as well, other episodes as well I haven't watched yet.

I took kayak classes before jumping into the sport, and then after getting a kayak I took 2 surf zone classes. We learned had to get flipped coming in forwards, backwards, and sideways. After the surf zone classes where I spent each day getting pounded I decided against doing any surf launches in the future. Just protected launches for me.

I had always liked the Stealths, not for surf launches but for the light weight, and center fish hatch. After having a sea lion grab my dangling stringer of fish, and flipping me out I made the decision to get a Stealth.

So I had done 3 protected launches with the Stealth, and Tsuri says now that you have a Stealth you have to surf launch….that’s what they are made for. Plus if you do flip it’s no big deal because all your gear will be inside.

So the plan was to target salmon from Muir Beach. Tsuri gave me a good push, and off I went. We trolled a straight 6 hours, and about 10 miles. I didn’t get a bite, and Tsuri stopped over a reef in the way in for a couple of rock fish.

In the surf zone classes I learned the going out was way easier than coming in. When we got towards shore I picked a small swell, and paddled as fast as I could. I hadn’t noticed the much larger swell right behind it. Just as I was about to jump out the larger wave turned me sideways. I instinctively, and immediately did a hard brace side surfing all the way in. What a thrill, and I guess the surf zone classes taught me some valuable skills.

Surf launches are all I do in NC -- It's pretty rare for me to stuff it going out. Wait for the right set, wade out up to my stomach and then hop on. Like you said, much harder getting it right on the return. It doesn't look cool and isn't nearly as fun but I've resigned myself to backing in and then sprinting forward to get over breakers.

I am about to retire very soon and hope to go out to some places here in WA state that I have wanted to go to but do to time and weather constraints never made it to.  I can see some surf launching in my future.

I love seeing all this Stealth hype! Such awesome fishing machines. I gotta say, I think ive yarded more times on my 525 then I ever did on my Revo. But I think it's 100% because I just don't care as much about flipping knowing that my gear is safe. Nowadays I kinda am just careless and charge lol. I can think of some pretty sweet smackdowns at muir :metal
