I shredded the latex neck gasket on my Kokatat drysuit, and need to replace it. There are 3 options on the Kokatat website:

1) Ship it to them, and they'll replace it for $99 (plus shipping).
2) Buy the neck gasket only for $49 and DIY
3) Buy the neck gasket along with a micro piece of sandpaper and glue for $59

In addition, for 2) and 3), there is an oddly-named "neck replacement tool" for $100 that includes some plastic pieces and clamps that supposedly make it easier to DIY.

Based on a YT video, I believe that I can DIY it, without any need for the "neck replacement tool", so my question is whether to go with 2) or 3). In particular, what kind of glue is needed, and is it really necessary to pay Kokatat $10 for a tiny tube of it.

Aqua Seal is what I've used for replacing neck and wrist gaskets. You can DIY a form to stuff into the neck opening so that you have a smooth surface to work with for gluing. Lots of videos online showing the process.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks for the info.

This video shows an interesting way to do the wrist gaskets, which looks like it should work for the neck too:

I've used a 1 liter coke or seltzer water bottle as a form for my wrist gaskets. I think it was a partially deflated kickball that I used for the neck. You just need something to hold the shape while it dries so no gaps develop. Good luck!

Cheers,
Brad

If you want to save a little coin, you could also purchase the gaskets and glue here:

Those are amazingly cheap, assuming that shipping is not too outrageous...

I have always sent mine to Kokatat.  They inspect the entire suit and recommend any other needed repairs. Once they replaced my entire suit because then fabric was delaminating.  I wasn't even aware of the delamination issue.  I have always found Kokatat to be fair and professional.

Shipping isn't that bad, still way cheaper than buying stateside. If you go that route, I suggest you stock up on any gaskets/supplies you need, or think you might need in the future to spread out the shipping cost.

Yes, Kokatat provides great service. I have a drysuit and a semi-drysuit, and I send them in to Kokatat yearly for a "water test". They have twice replaced the entire suit due to delamination, and neither time did I suspect there was a serious issue. But, if they replace the neck gasket, it more than doubles the cost, as compared to DIY, and this looks like a pretty easy thing to do. The savings is more than enough to pay for an extra factory "water test'...

I have the full kit and don't need the neck tool. Send me your address by PM, and I’ll ship it to you.
