New Melones recommendations

Starting my summer road trip at New Melones.  Will have my two kids and kayaks with me and I don't think the mussel band affects us.  We're camping at Glory Hole for two nights, then continuing northeast towards Tahoe.

I've never fished New Melones.  Any general recommendations for late July (7/27-7/29) ?  Maybe late night catfishing from shore?  early morning Kokonee trolling?  I doubt I could do a full day of fishing with kids (young and low attention spans), so I'll have to pick a choose my fishing time to an hour or two then do other kid activities.

I would do first light Kokanee fishing. They will be deep- probably 50’-70’ deep or so. It seems like the bite often dies mid morning and then can pick up again.

I second first light/early morning as well. Seems like they bite better early morning at NM and better air temperature to be on the water to fish during the summer.
