Instead of the Salmon Opener….

Last week my brother and I took off on a road trip.  Our first stop was in Prineville Oregon so we could visit with some life long friends. While there I had the opportunity to hike up “Smith’s Rock.”  I started my hike at daybreak to avoid the huge crowds that show up later in the day.  It was a great hike that I got to experience mostly by myself.

On Thursday we left Prineville and drove to Laramie Wyoming for the night.  On Friday we visited the University of Wyoming and checked out the bookstore.  In the bookstore I was looking for some Josh Allen football swag.  (FYI Josh Allen played football there.) Having found none in my size I decided to pick up a couple of other items.

After visiting the campus it was off to Denver to attend a wedding reception slated for late Saturday afternoon.  Having some free time Saturday morning we decided to head over to Golden Colorado.  Golden is a lovely town with “Clear Creek” running through it.  Along side the creek is an easy hiking trail where you can watch whitewater kayakers and rafters running the rapids.  Some fire departments were practicing some different whitewater rescue techniques on Saturday and it was very cool to observe.

Sunday morning we drove to Colorado Springs to experience the “Garden of the Gods.”  The garden is an amazing place with beautiful red rock formations and miles of trails to hike.

We returned home yesterday and now we are getting ready to go to Lake Almanor on Saturday and spend a week exploring

Awesome trip.

When I was in grad school, on 2 separate occasions, I attended a 2-week summer class at the University of Wyoming (my advisor had gotten his degree there, so he got a couple of free passes each summer). It's a great place for outdoor adventures, at least in the summer...
