Trying a couple small crank baits too. My painting experiment, haha.

You might be able to get a thinner, smaller brush size for more detail, but maybe those super detailed lures just catch more fishermen than fish anyway.
I wanna see a photo in the future of fish caught on one of these.

Do you fish for Kokanee or landlocked kings?
If you do or are interested in trying I’d bet you can come up with some effective and unique stuff you couldn’t get from any store. I think I’d try making a few 1”-2” spoons. I’ve made some using metal willow blades that have been pretty good for King salmon in Berryessa, Oroville, and Almanor.

Kokanee lures seem to evolve every season, and the strangest stuff can be the hot ticket some years. Maybe print up a super small (like 1”) cut plug style lure, or a variation of the willow blade or apex?

Photos below are of the willow lures I referenced

Nice! I have a couple lure STL's I'd be happy to pass along if you're interested. They'll need some sealing to prevent water from getting in though.

The grey one I made up, white one was adapted to be line-through from a file I found online. It's been a while since I've printed those but I don't think either need supports.

Agreed! I didn't buy anything for the finish material yet, literally just used my kids paintbrush, so not super detailed. I ended up using a toothpick for most of the "details" haha.

I've only been Kokanee fishing once - and it was a blast! Kevin (Plug-n-Jug) put me and the kids onto the fish and everyone had a great time. Will definitely be chasing Kokanee again this spring/summer, and will definitely build a few home.made lures to try out.

Those look great, would love to give them a try! I've just been playing with what I can find on Thingiverse and a couple other sites.

Hey, here are a couple that I designed:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/104JRLfw1cmCXaKaU7z5r6z6tkof6ij29/view?usp=drive_link - I designed this one to have an air bubble in it's back to prevent it from spinning out, it worked but requires something to seal the print or eventually water will work it's way in. I've caught rainbow trout with these. It was designed so I could print a bunch out pretty quickly, printed on it's side with simple shapes and minimal internal support (I think I was able to print it without any infill but it's been a while and I forget). Lots of action, I had best luck painting the top with bright colors or printing in bright greens, oranges or pinks. Rig it like a pro-troll or any other number of trolling lures, and feel free to experiment with scale!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ixjjbdAPHo-EacKruMyjU02koGiBkr3o/view?usp=drive_link - this one I designed to be similar to lyman lures, they have a gentle action. Never had any luck with it. Similar to the first one, without a sealing coat water will eventually make it's way inside the print. I wanted to try this out at pyramid lake but haven't had the chance yet.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Paint the Brads cut plug looking one Hot Pink then add Chartreuse tape Dots, Diagonal stripes or whatever. It will kill both Trout and Kokes. I'd take Sea-bree"s advice and make some flutter Bug type lures too!
