I kinda dodged a health scare.

soooo....I am a kayak bass fisherman thru and thru.  winters are hit/miss for me for the most part, so my friend (who absolutely sucks in the winter off his bass boat) decided to be snow birds.   we just booked a trip to MEXICO!!

I've been saving money to visit the rain forest to chase Peacocks again, but a trip to Mexico is literally a 1/3 the money and effort.  and my Spanish is better than my Portuguese!

My health scare?  required me to lose 10% of my body weight.  I complied with my Dietician and Doctors, and I am just about there.  I will meet my 3 month deadline, when I meet my Doc again.  I can run 3 miles now, and I do so every morning at 5:00am.  with my dog.
Been a minute since I visited Mexico.  I was a 20 years old and had the best fishing trip of my young life at a lake down there.  now decades later...time to go!!  bummer it will be margarita-less.  BOO!

I assume anyone that can run 3 miles, and certainly doing it regularly, is more healthy than 80% of Americans. (But maybe that ain’t saying much?)
I did a December road trip to Sinaloa one year in the ‘90s (before it got real bad), stayed at a rural rancho of some guys I knew. We did a half assed attempt at bass fishing the local reservoir. The dude driving the boat hooked a huge bass over 10 lbs that broke off but I skunked.
I had a rock the size of a half-worn bar of soap go through a rear tire on my Toyota 4wd. A shop patched the tear with a huge ball.
On the way back my friend and I had to leapfrog bathroom stops, frequently stopping for gas with a tank 3/4 full. He had to leave is underwear behind on the side of a dark and foggy Tehachapi Pass.

Dude congrats on getting your health back on track. It can be a real struggle. I started that journey somewhat recently as well and it’s been a real ass kicker.

And don’t be ashamed to admit you like bass fishing! IDK what most of the posters on this site are into, but give me a bass any day of the week! I have 90% bass gear and 10% for those other boring fish  :smt044 And I have a ton of tackle!

Sounds like you've been working on and investing in your health - something I think most people need to do more of.  Good on you for sticking with it and seeing results!

we just booked a trip to MEXICO!!

Mexico is so awesome!  I would retire there ASAP if I could talk my better half into it.  Such a beautiful and wild place.  Where are you headed?  I've really only travelled the west coast, but I've been to a lot of popular spots, and a few of the "off the beaten path" places too.

No judgement from me.  Bass fishing can be really fun, and certainly a different challenge than other species.  A kayak makes an excellent platform for bass fishing, and we have lots of excellent bass fishing here in CA in places very accessible by kayak.  Sometimes when striper or trout fishing, I catch more bass than the fish I am actually targeting, haha.  Plus, they are a very hardy fish with huge populations in so many places, which means that as other fisheries with more fragile fish suffer, bass fishing will always be there.
