I need to get some new gear before the season starts up, and wanted to ask for recs. I've been pretty satisfied with the heavier weight KUFA traps, but anybody have a strong preference for Promar Ambush or Danielson? Seems like the Ambush would have to be seriously better to justify the hassle of not collapsing...

Definitely interested in heavier rings as I've had problems with walking traps in the past.

I use the standard Promar collapsible hoop nets and they work fine for me. I also don't crab in Tomales very often, so current isn't much of a problem.

If you dont leave your gear out overnight/extended days, or fishing very deep, I don't think heavy gear is needed.  I've always used the lightest traps, because kayaking reasons.  I use the small promar ambush hoops and they have lasted me over 10 years, although I've had to fix holes in the nets. You can always add weight if the need arises
