Planning on exiting the harbor mouth around 6. Haven't decided on hitting the nearby sandy areas and reefs vs heading over past the wharf to the reefs out there - depends on how bumpy it is.

Somebody needs to keep the sea lions company in Santa Cruz while everyone is at the MBK derby.

Still a ton of anchovies by the Pier. Just jigged some up for tomorrow's derby.

I was pedaling around the harbor for an hour testing out a few things today. Anchovies are thick in the harbor (aerators are running to try to prevent a smelly mass die-off), and I assume they are thick outside the harbor too.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Thanks for the anchovy intel. I was wondering what the pumping in the harbor was all about. Hope I can find a hali but it’s hit or miss for me and I’ll probably wind up at a reef.

On the way out to the reefs by the lighthouse, I loaded up on a couple dozen anchovies, a couple of kingfish, and a tasty size jacksmelt. I had all the bait and thought it would go well on the reefs, but things were slow. Only took home three decent blue rockfish for tacos tonight.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.
