Hey gang. I’m gonna hit Doran tomorrow after I get off work tomorrow morning and camp until Friday afternoon. Primary target is halibut and then anything else is a bonus. Thursday I’ll probly get on the water late and stay somewhat close. Friday I plan to be on the water at grey light and fish until conditions allow. Company welcome!

Wish I saw this post earlier, but I'm a once in awhile lurker here. But instead of making a new post -  I was out there on Wednesday - Thursday for my first time. I got skunked Wednesday, but on Thursday, when i was about to give up, I ran into and met Charles (on a revo) who gave me a tip to go shallower at 15-20 feet when i was out to 40ish for most of the time. Thanks to his help I landed my first halibut from a kayak. Anyway, don't mean to hijack the post but if you all know a Charles who is a regular out there, let him know Derek says he's grateful.

Ah, good. You got one. I also did catch one about the same size after we turned and came back to the golf course. That wind got stiff coming back to the parking lot and van. Not much bait around. Sometimes it is thick and more fish are there but looked to me that we were both lucky to come away with dinner.

How did Hali hunt go Cam?

Wednesday I got a late start (10:45) due to getting off work that same morning. SUPER thick fog which I thankfully used my trusty garmin 60csx gps to get through it. Its my first time kayak fishing here. Super calm waters with nearly no wind I start heading south dragging dead bait anywhere from 25ft to 40ft. Not many boaters out there. I made my way to the mouth of the Estero Americano for nada. Beautiful scenery though. Some areas of structure look good for RF. Anticipating the wind to pick up anytime, I started heading back north working 30-40ft for not a scratch. Not too much eel grass around. Eventually made my way to the head at the edge of the preserve but still nothing and the wind kicked up hard right after I got there. Drifted back to the launch and started pondering my next move. "Should I give it another go early tomorrow or....... oh shit", I see on facebook albacore showing up closer in at Fort Bragg. I eventually decide not to continue Bodega the following day and to instead plan on going to Fort Bragg Friday and go after albacore on a PB. But thats another story. I'm pooped.

Awesome, I'm glad you hooked up as well. That wind was kicking my butt.

Yeah I think I threw in the towel about that time on Wednesday. I couldn't get anything on the sabiki either days so i was just dragging a bounce ball with a hoochie all over the place.
