Quiet conditions today with one light sprinkle for about 5 minutes. winds stayed down, swell was minimal. Tons of anchovies outside the harbor - made bait and a few extra for the table first thing. A few croakers, a small gopher - things were pretty slow overall. Drifting a chovy looking for a hali and I notice some bait on the screen - thinking they're smelt or mackerel I drop the sibiki down. It loads up bigtime -  blue rockfish on every hook on a noodle rod! Total clusterF but got them in and returned to their home. Hooked myself twice, two pieces of cord and probably put a couple small holes in my dry suit - reminded me why I hate sabikis - those little hooks are sharp and grab everything. Ended up picking up a 16" brown on an anchovy at the edge of the reef, then a 27" ling on two-year-old herring. A few other small rockfish landed and released, a few others released early. Nice day on the water. No sharks sighted but I'm sure they were there.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks for sharing. I’m glad I’m not the only one with the same experience… Did you see any boats trying for Hali outside of the harbor at about 30 FOW?

There were boats inside - I stayed 50' and deeper based on past experience with hali as a salmon bycatch there. Maybe they did better inside? Radio was pretty quiet.
