Hey all- stoked to meet you.
I converted a two man Malibu XL into my fishin kayak. Slowly but surely- I've added to it and am getting closer to a complete set up for some deeper water adventures.
I've surfed my whole life so lots and lots of water time and kayak fishing gicves me a lot of the same excitement.
SInce I set up, I've been lucky enought to land about 10 keeper 'buts, a few nice rockfish. I recently started catching my own bait and definitely like to use lighter weight/gear. My favorite is a 3/4oz head swinbait. I lost an absolute monster with one a few weeks ago.
Definitely tons or techniques for me to learn and am probably light on safety so I need to improve that too.
Would love to go out with some other people because I've learned everything on youtube and just trying to figure it out myself.
-Gary

Yeah nowhere- I shashimi'd them and they were unreal. Some of the biggest macks I've seen. They fight like a VERY MINI tuna - ha!

Welcome!  Lots of good folks here who post lots of good info.  Feel free to ask questions, and of course browse old posts.  Several Santa Cruz regulars here too, keep your eyes on the "hookup" section and for sure there will be invites.

Love Capitola, BTW. Super fun little town!
