I have a slow-pitch jigging setup but have never learned it properly. I thought it would be great to have a get-together to share techniques.
We will select a location later based on participants and weather. If you want to volunteer to give a 10- 15-minute seminar, please let me know.
If you are interested in joining, you can respond to this post.

Showing up with my pink goofish and chrome diamond jigs!

Ever since 3$ posted that goofish deal I have gone down the rabbit hole, I am building a second spj rod with a spinning reel seat for 250g jigs, so much fun but I think rockfishing might be the easiest thing to target with them, they will literally hit a suspended jig LOL.

I have been trying sweeping motions, half turns full turns, but I always just like to contact bottom and get my jigs stuck...

Buying keel jigs on ebay for cheap and making my own stingers still!

I lost my slow pitch rod and reel when I flipped at Shelter Cove. The replacement reel arrived today, and I have a Temple Reef rod to mount it on. Last time I was with you at Fort Ross I used the TR rod with the reel I lost.

I started the day with a conventional rod and reel with a giant swim bait, and fished that for about 3 hours. No bites so I switched to the slow pitch rig and starting catching blues. Kept 3 larger ones and released the rest.

Not sure I have any special technique but I would like to join.

Maybe you're already rigged this way but jig assist hook(s) tied at the top of the jig will not snag as easily when bottom fishing. Also, if using treble hooks, I like to use something around size 6# with a 40# leader. If it snags, the jig should free up by bending the hookl

The satisfaction you get from doing a good deed is like pissing in your wetsuit...it gives you a warm feeling inside but nobody else gives a shit.

Great, I want specifically to learn slow-pitch jig.

Any good YouTube’s on this? I always thought that if you get the jig in the rock fish or lings face they will reaction bite. Didn’t know there was so much technique involved.

Thanks again for the 50 fathom line fish finder install Paul.

You welcome.
The slow-pitch jigging requires some technique and understanding.
I would start with this video:
This is the best introduction video I found.

Paul, what species are you targeting? I find that all the slow-pitch jigging videos on YT use a big up/down sweeping motion. I don't think that technique is suitable for RF. In fact, when I got my first slow-pitch setup, I went out several times mimicking what those YT guys do. I never caught a fish doing that big sweeping motion. I use the traditional yo-yo-stop-yo-yo-stop motion, even when using slow-pitching setup. That works well for me.

I want to target rockfish.  I am trying to understand and develop a technique that works.

I see. Please share if you find a killer technique that works.

Based on all those YT videos, I feel the slow-pitch technique only works well for pelagic fish species.
