I posted this under regs but figure nobody looks there

Looking through the f&w pdf for specifics about shore fishing regs I came up blank, put it down to age and impatience

What I’m wondering is basics for example casting for stripers do you have to remove the treble hooks and replace with singles? Same with perch I guess, just trying to figure out what’s allowed as far as hooks

The only thing I was able to see was it looks like you can fish from shore year round

This’ll be my first fishing license in maybe 6 years so want to know what’s up before I get out

Mr. Blue,

I hardly even kayak fish anymore but I'm surfcasting all the time.  Less hassle, less lifting, quicker turnarounds, more opportunities via weather and sea conditions. And, tons of fun. Like anything, it can be aas simple or as complicated as you care to make it. Open offer to you to hit the beach with me anytime for some fun and cover the basics.  I C&R most everything from the beach, so kayak fishing still rules for stocking the larder.

I feel like I'm stating the obvious here, but you can find seasons and bag limits information here:

General gear regs are here:

https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Sport-Fishing/General-Ocean-Fishing-Regs#gear

In people-speak, the answers to your questions are  treble hooks are perfectly fine for stripers and even for perch. According to the regs, three hooks is the maximum. Most surf lures come stock with three hooks. Most surf anglers replace the stock hooks with stronger trebles when fishing stripers, and often leave the middle position bare. Throwing stick baits for perch is a blast, but I catch more perch using a carolina rig. (Maybe because I suck at casting stickballs. perhaps I'll get better this year.)

Yeah Bushy i will take you up on that when time allows

Is for food and exercise on my end. Perch is one ive only speared occasionally decades back

Stripers is one i'd want tho having only cast from the back of the surf i might be inclinedto do that. Been15 years or more since i fished those

I'm dusting off casting gear
