Del Valle 9/29

Here is a second hand report for Del Valle from de OTHER Ken. It might be a little off cause I got it last night after I came back from a 3 day camping trip exhausted. But here is the best I can remember.

Trout to 2 lbs. were biting and he got a few on senkos fishing for bass. Boaters told him that the bigger holdovers were by the dam. Stripers were in the narrows but they were small. Catfish is biting as well. Bass fishing was slow but he did manage at least 1/2 dozen. But let me warn you that when ken gets only 1/2 dozen it may mean a skunk for the average angler. The bass were caught in the narrows as well and there were a couple smallies in the mix.

that is a good report and I hope the weather stays decent til the "fish n chill" get together.

Starting from the campgrounds, yes. I have done more than 3 miles in one full day of fishing. And the wind usually helps me come back in the afternoon. 

I'll let you in on a secret. I use the tube because of the control over the bait. I need to be able to fish it very slow. If you intend to catch a big bass or any big fish, slow down your presentation. That I think is the key for catching the bigger fish.

Oh, and I got some more intel from Ken. He said the catfish action was not only on, it was hot. I believe he was using chicken liver.

I love to fish in the rain. Although cooking the meals could be a problem. 

Can you get to the dam in a float tube?

Actually, if you are serious about float tubing at the dam, you can hike in from the north.  There is parking at the end of Arroyo rd. (past Wente golf course).  The hike to water is not that far, but getting over the first hill hurts if you aren't in shape.  It is definitely possible, though, if you don't mind a short hike over a steep hill.
