Looking to get back into crabbing from my kayak after a 10+ year break. I used to crab quite a bit (including diving for them). Brushing back up on the regulations, I have some questions and am hoping folks can help answer:

1) It looks like traps are allowed again since the commercial season started.  Is anyone using the rectangular collapsible traps shown below?  How are you able to fulfill the "destruct device" / cotton twine requirement with this style of trap?  It seems this requirement was introduced a few years after I stopped crabbing.
Best solution I can think of is to secure one of the required O rings to the netting using the cotton twine (and ensure the opening is the required 5").

2) Can I use any color of buoy for my main buoy (so long as it meets the sizing requirements)?  The illustrations show a red / white buoy - but there is no mention of color requirement (as there is for the red marker buoy).

Cheers!

Thanks Christian.

I got answers to my specific questions RE: the destruct device as well elsewhere so I'm all good.  I'm just going to cut a 5" opening in the netting and tie it closed w/ cotton twine.

Excited to get back into it!
