Franks Tract Saturday

I'll be fishing Franks Tract this Saturday, probably drifting live bait for striper, but I'll also have some senkos and brush hogs in case I feel like targeting black bass.

I'll be launching out of Beacon Harbor with my wife by 8:00 am. Launch fees there are $5 a kayak.
Company is welcome! 

I'll be in a sunrise colored P15 and my wife is in a yellow Tarpon 140.

I already replied to Great Bass 2's post about Del Valle, but I might reconsider for Franks Tract.  I have been eager to explore the delta since moving to Antioch.  I am a little intimidated by the tide, wind, etc. in the delta.  I have only been out once @ Delta Meadows (thanks to info on NCKA).  I always like LMB, but I really want to hook into a striper.  I recently bought a new rod that I could use for both LMB and striper. 

Maybe I will see you out there.

I forgot to mention:  I am getting ready to buy a fish finder and I could use some pointers.  I saw your post about the installation, and you did a pretty good job.  I am no Macguyver, so I will need all of the help that I can get.

Sounds good, I'll keep an eye out for you. Like you, I'm pretty new to kayak fishing too, but I would be happy to share anything that I have learned so far.

BTW, I have found Franks Tract to be a pretty good place to start out paddling and fishing in the delta. Compared to a lot of other places there isn't a lot of current and the wind is supposed to be 5mph or less most of this Saturday. Lots of power boats in the area, but I'm hoping that cooler temps will reduce their presence somewhat.

I hope you are right about the wind.  2 or 3 weeks ago, I was going to try to launch near Isleton @ Viera's Resort.  I checked it out on that Saturday, and it was just a little breezy and not too hot.  I was pumped up about getting out in the morning only to wake up to strong winds.   I didn't even unload the kayak.  Big disappointment.  I am hoping it is calm out there Sat. 

FYI, Our last trip out of Franks tract we did fairly well across the channel at the sunken sail boat trolling lures. But if you want to use live bait coming from the fuel station at Franks Tract troll a sabiki and their's alot of perch in that channel as well as fingerling stripers. Our next go out that is our plan. Frankfishng

Is it legal to use fingerling stripers as bait? 

It's illegal to keep any striped bass less than 17", so it's illegal to use fingerlings as bait.

The regs allow you to use fin fish legally taken (other than salmon and trout) for bait. Legally taken would include the size regulations, so be careful what you use for bait! 

Our plan is to use the perch. Fingerlings stripers are illegal sorry I ran those togeather.

Is "perch" the same as bluegill?

yeah, areas around rio vista could be howling most times, usually from the W. i'm talking from antioch bridge all the way to isleton. it's smart to not waste time in those conditions.

one thing you could do is go to the opposite side of the river and paddle/fish along the banks where you'll protected by tullies.

or just go to 8mile rd near stockton or anywhere you can launch along hw 4 going east. you'll find plenty of spots with little or no winds.
