Just got a message from a buddy still working for the NPS. Some time this morning a group of three hikers at Pt. Reyes dropped down to an isolated beach and decided to go for a swim and it ended tragically for one.

While in the water two of the swimmers noticed a commotion in the water and a large blood slick and could not find the third swimmer. This has not yet hit the press but looks pretty certain. Marin Coast In October and swimming in the water are a horrible combination. Likely, searchers are still trying to locate remains…RIP😞

“ There have been 24 shark attacks off the California coast since 2020, data shows.”

Is that a typo?

That seems like a high number. According to most sources online, there is an average of less than 2 per year off the CA coast. Maybe it depends on how “attack” is defined, which could be anything from a mean look to a life-threatening bite.
I don't like stuff that sucks.
