I knew that pic was coming...

I'm telling ya, from where I was sitting the waves looked smaller nearer the center.  Maybe it was just the waves crushing over the rocks that made it appear so.  I knew there was a very slim chance of a dry landing for me no matter what, so it was no surprise when I got thrown.  Anyway, like I said, I learn something new every time!

Adam,

Best to be incremental about these things. You'll have to make a similar decision some time in the future. Now you have more info to make your decision.

I have been to BH before and not launched too.

The pics dont show those sets that went across the mouth of the cove! It was only after watching it for a bit and seeing the lulls that I went out, but I did stow everything for the return, just in case.

I did not stow for the launch, but I did for the landing.

I think bait, shrimpflies and swimbaits are the ticket when the swell is up a bit. or some iron that is somewhat snagproofed with the hook on the top, or something.

One thing I truly enjoy about NCKA as a group is that you can always count on someone to help you out.... I've seen this happen many times and I hope that this tradition will never end.

Everytime you see pics of some one landing on the beach, you'll always see 2 or 3 others ready and waiting on the shoreline to help out. Truly a class act NCKA :smt045. Keep it up  :smt023

Driving home, I took Devil's Slide - HWY1. And just passed Grey Whale Cove, I finally got to see the "Tunnel" that will go through the Montara Mountain and will open up to a bridge that will lead directly to Linda Mar.

yeah, i'd have probably bailed on conditions like that.  Bean is pretty tricky.  Those pics show a shore break, and some breakers at the mouth.  You REALLY gotta time that or else...  but I guess we soon  :smt013won't have to worry about it until 2008

For no fishing, I had a great day. Hard to believe we hung out there so long! The early morning wave action was quite entertaining for us in the blufftop peanut gallery.

Watching the surf all day was a great learning experience for that particular spot.

Waking to the morning rain, with a freezer still crammed with fish, I left my kayak at home & went solely for the company. I was not disappointed!

And excellent food too, simple & to the point. As Eric said "meat, bread, and just enough veggies to keep from gettin' scurvy". Arrr, mateys!

...I was doing what Mooch told me to.....get a pic of a WIPE-OUT and if they do? you can give em' a hand, since you're already there!  :smt011   no he didn't say that  :smt008

John~ i've puss'd/bailed on many of BIG DAYs in the mighty Pacific! (swallowing pounds of pride is alot easier than pounds of water)

Driving home, I took Devil's Slide - HWY1. And just passed Grey Whale Cove, I finally got to see the "Tunnel" that will go through the Montara Mountain and will open up to a bridge that will lead directly to Linda Mar.

...and i saw that thing too!.....I'd rather slide down the hill and have a chance to escape from the car in the ocean or hanging off a rock than get burried ALIVE in that tunnel(JMO)
