I forgot to mention this a few days ago, but my brother and I were out in the tandem on Saturday, having launched near the pier, and we saw a whale breach several times, a few hundred yards away. It scared the sh## out of me. Then it began whacking its fluke against the water repeatedly. It was very impressive. I've never seen anything like it. We were about a mile out, so felt pretty vulnerable, but it was definitely worth the experience...
 Sorry, we didn't get any photos...

Did you note which species?

I've seen lots of greys, but no other types.

I'm not sure...grays or humpbacks probably.

It really was awesome. Seeing a whale jump from a kayak really puts into perspective how vulnerable we are in our little plastic boats...
