Thought I’d share this epic story. If either of the kayakers are on here, speak up! I probably would’ve pissed myself but damn that’s a once in a lifetime experience.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I was on the water last Saturday out of Fort Ross and heard radio chatter about Orcas in the area. I guess it must have been these guys.

Not sure I would manage to stay as calm if they were that close, but reassuring to hear the expert say they never attack humans (in the wild).

Killer whale experiences are awesome on a kayak.  I once had a pod of killer whales approaching from the left.  The large male in the pod sped up and stopped in front of us, with its eye out of the water watching us.  This led us to stop paddling.  The rest of the pod sounded on our left and came up on our right, then kept traveling away.  The male stayed right there in front of us, until the pod got far enough away from us, then he sped up and rejoined them.  It was like he was playing crossing guard, telling us to stop while his family passed safely.  Pure magic!

Now that's the proper use of a Go-Pro!

I thought I saw a pod of Orca thrashing around off Duncan's Landing a few years ago.  The white bellies were obvious, but I wasn't sure if they were around here...

Ran across this thread today and looked up the video on youtube:

I just ran across several videos of orcas messing with sailboats and breaking their rudders.  Sure hope I can see an orca sometime, from a distance  :smt005

Seen a pod in my boat near the "Portuguese ledge" over a decade ago. Maybe 100 yards away. They were on the move and surfacing pretty high. Pretty amazing.
