I sometimes park the car with the kayak outside so I don’t wake up the kids when I go fishing early. But am always concerned someone would steal it.

Leveraging our home alarm system (made by Ring) I now have a contact sensor on the kayak. it’s identical to those on our doors and windows. If anyone removes the kayak from the car, the two parts of the sensor would separate, triggering the home siren and logging the event in the app. If someone wanted my Revo so bad that they would steal the car and the kayak together, well, my car has its own alarm.

I think I’m going to sleep good.

P.S.
I still need to figure how to install the sensor on the kayak

I use locking steel reinforced straps, and have an Airtag in the kayak.

Good idea adding the Ring sensor but be careful not to set it off when the system is armed.

I grabbed something out of the basement once after setting the alarm early in the morning. Wife was not happy about it.

Yes! Accidental trigger is a problem. Thing is, the kayak sensor is part of the home alarm, so by default the system would automatically arm it when we go to bed, and disarm before I leave the house to go fishing.

How much does this solution cost?  I need it for my car.  I have to go to Oakland sometimes and I'm always afraid the car will get stolen.

I want something that can help me stop theft before it becomes successful, instead of helping me trace the vehicle after it's gone. This looks like will do that.

Sorry about the car trouble. This solution can only help you when the car is near the house. That’s because the alarm sensor is reporting to the base station, which is inside the house. So it’s a very specific use case really. The sensor is relatively cheap. I think $20 for a pair.

Very clever.

I'm lucky that nobody can find my house, even with GPS. The only drawback is the occasional falling tree...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Haha at 4am my brain would totally forget to turn off the alarm.  I can barely remember to bring my reels most days!

Haha. So everything worked smooth. Except when I put my car keys in my pocket I accidentally triggered my wife’s car alarm  :smt013
