Well looks like its a wrap for commercial guys. April 15th

The bad is that they are throwing around the idea of ropeless traps again that are highly expensive .If it makes its way to us sporties.  :smt011

"Catherine Kilduff, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity, a conservation nonprofit concerned with ocean health, strongly recommended that ropeless fishing gear become the standard for the industry."

They might make a requirement for ropeless traps, but I bet hoops would still be OK for rec use.  The rules are already different for traps vs hoops.

Shit situation, either way. Save the whales, sink an industry that already has a hard time.

I believe it was a year or two ago where there was a California politician who was presenting the idea for sporties as well but was promoted and the idea died.

As you mentioned, i think sporties are safe with the hoop restrictions of not letting your hoop soak for over two hrs without inspection.  ( if and when they put into place again)
