The last two times I’ve been fishing off of pleasure point I saw what looked like a small whale the first time I wasn’t sure for the second time I was with a buddy and we saw it surface three or four different times.

Maybe a Risso’s dolphin?

Maybe a Risso’s dolphin?

I don’t believe so from the pictures I’ve seen of risso. All I saw was the blowhole. It was white  with a darker blue and it’s the only part that I actually saw. My buddy thought he heard a whale like a minute before we saw it and I saw it twice so I am sure it was a small whale and not a dolphin, the blow hole was way too big and not anything like a dolphin.  It looked like a big nose, I also didn’t see any fin afterwards.  I don’t know I’m gonna take my drone out to PP a couple times this week and see if I can see anything. I also saw it a 2 weeks ago n Monday when I went out fishing near the point, I heard something and looked behind me, and I just saw it going under but same thing I never saw a  fin afterwards, and it was really big to be a dolphin.

Risso's are pretty darn big, not sure exactly, but twice a dolphin size I think?

I did see a small whale in about 50 feet of water just south out of the santa cruz harbor on saturday.

Sounds like it is a whale then. I hope I can get out there soon and see it myself…
