Thanks for the research Al.   The only one to advertise any waterproof ness was Humingbird.  Both Garmin and Lowrance have failed me.  You can’t even spit on them and hope they’ll work again.

Took a gamble on Walmart.com and bought what looked like a duplicate of my Lowarance Eliet-4 Chirp, with maps, DSI/2D for $150.  Sure hope it is what the site said it is...

This is odd to read.  After each trip, I completely dunk my Hook Reveal 5 in fresh water (completely submerge).  Sometimes it's a dunk, shake and air dry, but other times I'm feeling lazy and just toss it in the fresh water tub and then remove it a few minutes later.  I haven't had any signs of water intrusion.

Mine were Garmin 441 which lasted 5 years.  Died due to water.  The Lawrence was a Hook5.  Made it 3 years.  It quit, then I opened it and dried it out. Got another season out of it even covered with a gallon ziplock.  Picked up a Lowrance Hook5X for $50 and used it today.  No GPS but worked good.  The Hobie AI really sprays in any wind.   I guess I'll have to try the Reveal.   They have multiple models up to $700.
