I used to fly fish often mainly streams until 2 years ago when I joined NCKA and you know what happens after that.  :smt005 Was reading the rules for BAM and was thinking that I should fly fish if I had any chance of winning. The only problem is that I have only fly fished for trout and never from a yak so I decided to spend the weekend taking a break from ocean fishing and working on my yak flyfishing techniques. To make a long story short, I fished the Serene lakes and fly fished only and did end up catching a 12 inch trout (CNR) on an olive crystal bugger tipped with a red powerbait worm but was completely humbled by the experience. The calabaetis hatch didn't show although I did try throwing some midges and small parachute adams for nada. Tied my share of "wind" knots and had line all over the place until I figured it out. My hats off to Ricky, Surfin Marmot and the others who make it look so easy. The bottom line is that I will be flyfishing BAM but it is going to be ugly, really ugly.  :smt003 (see previous post for info on Serene Lakes)

No worries GB2, we'll all cast a few I'm sure... 'cept for the FF OG's.  :cowboy_smoke:
Glad to hear there will be more FF's to mix things up a little.

Hey GB2 - good to know you were fly fishing on this weekend. Did Aslimoar's experience keep you off ocean? Just kidding  :smt044

What kind of net is that?

That is a Brodin 16" float tube net with a clear rubber net. Very cool net for fish under 16-18" since it does not tangle too much with treble hooks and the clear rubber does not spook the fish. Beautiful workmanship on the handle, but at $90  :smt013 very pricey. For the big fish I use a lip gripper since the net is relatively shallow and they can jump out fairly easy as I learned last year on DV with a 20" trout.

Thats hard work Scott!  i get pissed just flippin the senko when it submerges itself right before i cast and line gets tangled around the tip.
I can't imagine trying to control 50ft. of it and laying it in front of a fish QUIETLY?
