Topic: New to area, looking for sturgeon and striper  (Read 3572 times)

This is how I see it.  If I were an addict or trying to get on a sturgeon asap I would go Tuesday and catch the top of the tide until 1ish when the tide picks up even though you could make it back.  I wouldn’t paddle too far out to have a chance at a sturgeon with wind potential and tide.  I’ll try to find a pic of the spot.  Possible fog but you have gps.  You could go straight out to 10-12 fow and have a good shot.  1/4mi.  If you sense anything remotely challenging to your limitations, don't go.  I've had my scariest lessons dropping and retrieving my anchor.  Don't make any sudden adjustments while your kayak is straightening out...

I just now saw this so obviously I missed that. We may end up staying here longer than we thought so it's no huge rush. I did end up getting a job though, so it looks like I'm stuck to weekends now.

I feel pretty confident in my ability to avoid bad situations. I bought myself a marine radio and have the rest of the safety gear if things go wrong.
