Hey all,

Doing a little research on where we can park / launch on Treasure Island.

I spoke with Treasure Island Yacht Harbor (Clipper Cove) today - they don't officially have a kayak launch, but will allow kayakers to launch from their dock.  The person I spoke with hadn't seen kayakers launch there before, and said it would $15-20 for parking (they don't have a defined rate yet).  The office is open 10-4 7 days a week.  Parking there is limited, but somewhat secure.  They are also considering a kayak storage situation - a rack on the pier that holds up to 4 kayaks.  You would provide your own lock, sounds like it would not be covered, but inside the marina complex.  Monthly rates would be $30-40/month, and if he can get enough interest, he would set up at least one rack (possibly  two).  They are planning a rebuild of the marina in the next couple years, but still waiting on official negotiations between the City and marina stakeholders.

So, that is one opportunity - I'm gonna give it a go in the not-so-distant future.

He also mentioned that there is the old ramp at the north end of the island, where most people used to launch.  Parking is not secure there, and I am currently unsure if there is authorized parking there.  There is also an old ramp near Clipper Cove that used to be used for sea planes, but again, parking is an issue.

More to follow....

Launch from the ramp on the north end.

Parking there has been mostly ok.

There was a period where that parking area was blocked off by the gate and word was security was not allowing people to park by the ramp, but last time I drove by it was open and looked set up for people to park there.

I haven't been in some time so not sure if that changed.

You could also park on the street near the soccer field and walk to the launch.  Not too far.

This is what I've always heard.  I'm gonna drive by this afternoon and check it out.  I have some contacts on the island too - will see if I can find a definitive answer about parking.  Seems like they would want to bring people to the island for recreation - some good food options there.

Checked out the ramp at the north end, looked the same as it did last time I checked it out.  A few parking spots close to the ramp, and the whole access road to park alongside.  No signage, so I don't think there would be any hazard of getting towed/harassed.  Spoke with a windsurfer, he said that he goes there all the time, and that he had never had a problem leaving his truck parked there for a few hours.

Checked out the marina - that would be a tricky launch.  Long walk to the dock, no ramp, and parking is tight over there.  Maybe after the construction?

Also found the old sea plane ramp, between the marina and the sailing club.  No signs over there that I saw, but it is VERY steep - probably to steep for me.  Getting in, everything rolls downhill, right?  Getting out would be tough, especially if it is as slimy as it looks.

Thanks for doing the leg work! I’ve never launched there but did the internet map looking at the ramp on the northeast corner and it seemed like the best access.

For sure!  I haven't launched there either, and have seen a lot of reports of random issues with parking, so I wanted to get eyes on before committing to a morning launch.  Looks good to me, gonna give it a go Saturday AM.  I won't be able to get there til about 0830, but would love to hook up with others if anyone is interested.

The steep ramp is a no go.  Don't do it and the parking there is sketchy.  Lots of random people park there and hang out.

Launch at the north east ramp.  Easy parking 50' away and we haven't had issues there yet.  Just dont leave anything on the dash or seats.  Launch points you right in good fishing grounds.

TI is eventually going to charge a toll to come in and out of the island.

Yeah, it looked a bit hazardous, haha.  Maybe a fun slide down, but certainly a PITA to get back up.

Gonna post a hook up for Saturday, launch at north side ramp, hit the flats around the barge anchoring area.
