Anyone given them a try? I've been reading a bit about them and talked about them for a while with "Hippo" from Hi's tackle. They are a new concept for sure, and very pricey!! It seems they are fished on the way up, not on the drop like we usually do with irons. They drop like a rock, then swim their way back up. They are pushing a whole line of reels and rods to go with em too. I'm sure the "special" gear is helpful, but I find it hard to believe you can't make it happen with some of your exsisting gear, and spectra. Any feedback out there???

Hi Jonesz:

Way to much $$$. I would rather go the commerical guys and buy fish off the Dock than pay that much for a Jig.
I hate losing my $4.00 Buzz Bombs but, I would go broke trying to outfit myself with all the latest new products.

There's plenty of other knife jigs out there that will get the job done as well as a + $20 Butterfly.  Personally I don't feel that sub 240' of water and undescriminating bottomfish really warrant flashy knife jigs.  Then again I may be singin a different tune if I owned a tackle shop   :smt002
My opinion:
The whole "system" probably works fine for its intended design, deep water jigging for tuna, but seems overkill for the kind of jigging we do here.  I've heard claims of them hanging up less, unequaled action in the water and alot of other hype tacked onto a long skinny hunk of metal covered in flash tape.  Its all in the fisherman and their style of attack. You'd be fine throwing them on your current gear and mixing a couple of them in your current iron selection.

About 6 months ago @ Lover's, for sh*ts and giggles I threw a bare hook down to see what I'd get and pulled up a 3# Black within a minute. Ever since then I stick w/ the cheap stuff and modify it myself. Remember, if they promise that it'll catch fish it probably uses snake oil as an attractant. :smt002

Well I broke down and bought two jigs. One butterfly, and one knife jig. I'm making a mold with em, and going to pour a few of my own. See how that goes. Talked to a friend of mine yesterday about em, and he loves em for the open deep water. Hasn't used them inshore. Always fun to check something new out.

I have used them and they do work well but I can't say they are that any better than knife jigs. For stinger hooks the Owner brand seem pretty good and doesn't hang the bottom very easy however in kelp they hang up as much as a treble. The trevala rod is very popular with the NCKA group and at $100 is a good value for a production rod. I personally think they are overkill for rockfish but will be taking a couple of them down south to target yellowtail just in case they are not hitting the usual stuff. The new flat-sided design is more compact and in theory is designed for drift fishing. I have only tried the original design so can't comment on the flat or long designs.
