Mirage drive idler cable

The rope worked, but it liked to slip off on occasion, even with the no-stretch rope. So, I replaced it with a bungee cord, and that seems to work well. After a fair number of miles, there's been no slipping off, and I don't see any wear at all.

How is this holding up?  Mine snapped today, not feeling like spending $35 or waiting for delivery... Thanks!

my purple bungee has been cranked tight, is faded and ragged but has held longer than some other drive parts. i should get a replacement though.

I'm on my second season (and then some) of using bungee cord for my idler "cable" and it works great. My only new recommendation is to use 5mm (equivalently, 3/16) cord, and stretch it tight. Thicker cord slips off the pulley on occasion, while 5mm doesn't have that problem, and it also seems to last longer than the thicker stuff.

I'd say that you should easily get more than one full season of hard use out of a single bungee. I've never had one break, and only replaced the first one (after more than a full season) because the outer cover was getting a bit frayed.

Now, if we can just find a replacement for those ridiculously expensive chains...

Right on, good to know!  I put a pretty thick bungee on the other day - it made it 9 miles around Benecia on Saturday with me, must be good to go!
